As of 3.49pm, just a couple of hours after posting last...

...we just shoveled...

...It's coming down harder...

....yiiiikes.  Sorry for the blurry video, btw...I'm using my phone.  It's quicker to upload vids.

Until next time...

Mission: Blizzard; Part 2

View from my front door

So it's not really snow.  It's hail? Sleet? Rain? I don't know.

Here's a live (not so much) action shot...

Let's see how much more we get...

Mission: Blizzard Blues

Another one! The National Weather Service aka the Bearers of Bad News has forecast yet another blizzard heading my way for this Tuesday/Wednesday.  Oy.

I've been asked why all the intense hatred towards snow?  I've even received some snarky remarks about how I should be used to all this snow, after all, *scoff*, I grew up in Canada, and don't you all live in igloos anyway? *Guffaws*

Okay. The root of my snow disdain is the sheer danger of it.  People tend to underestimate just how dangerous it is to drive in snow.  We have cocky SUV and truck drivers going regular speed while there's already inches of snow or slush or ice on the ground.  Yes, we get it, you're big and you can handle it, but have you thought about those people in the tinier, 2-wheel-drive vehicles?  They need to go slower and many get quite frightened and intimidated by the road monsters speeding on by.  Also, they don't have quite as good traction so what if they spin out of control and you try and stop but it's too late?  And don't get on my ass about how I need to man up and be more careful because I drive a 2-wheel drive Sedan because I drive one of those SUV's as well, especially when it snows.

Honestly, people, in conditions such as the ones we experienced up here in the Northeast and Midatlantic region, you need to take extra caution!  Also, the area in which I live doesn't get the best snow plowing service, so I have to deal with ice and slush days after a snowfall.

So, there folks.  That's why I hate it.  I've said it before, when you have nowhere to go, yes snow is peaceful and calming and all sorts of amazing for a snowball fight.  It's just when you have to get behind the wheel is when I grumble and groan.  I'm grumbling and groaning now as I repeatedly check updates on Accuweather, hoping against all hope that the winds and snow clouds have shifted and done disappeared and we can expect sunny skies for the next few forevers.  I don't know why I do this to myself.

And no.  They DON'T live in igloos in Canada.

Mission: Blizzard

You know how I feel about snow.  I hate it.  Snow belongs on snow-capped mountains or in a globe...not on roads making driving conditions hazardous or on sidewalks/walkways making commutes treacherous.

That being said, snow is wonderful when you don't have to go outside and you have all your friends and loved ones close.  I wish I had had enough foresight to propose a snowed-in party at my house instead of letting my inner snow Grinch hem and haw about the impending blizzard.  What better excuse to stay in and veg out with some yummy comfort food and some yummy comfort alcohol? Ahh well...thanks to the east coast, I have the promise of a blizzard every year, so NOTE TO SELF: SNOWED-IN PARTY.

MISSION: TO BE CONTINUED...

Mission: Ego boost

I am now a firm believer that a compliment can pep up a dreary morning way better than coffee can.  I took Killa Cam to get filled up today.  The gas attendant was ever so dreamy.  At first, I didn't notice his muscular physique, beautiful shining smile and soft-spoken yet distinguished African accent because I was so inundated with hate thoughts towards the impending snow storm but he commented about how I had nice eyes and that I would have a nice smile too if I wasn't frowning.  Graciously, I gave him quite a dazzling one and we proceeded to have a rather nice conversation for the next 16 or so gallons.  Included in the conversation was how my hair was very nice and shiny (why, thank you very much), how I had a very nice voice (wow, really?), and how I had brightened up his morning (well, you're quite welcome).  I was calm, cool and gracious on the outside but a giggling little 13 year old on the inside.  In any case, it certainly did put me in a better mood.  Did he mean any of those compliments? Was he just trying to get into my pants? Was he hoping I tipped him? I don't care.  The fact is, even if it was all crap, someone made an effort to be nice to me, and hey, who's gonna have a problem with that?

So take note: compliments are a boost to the soul...and the ego.

And yeah, I tipped him.  Same price as a coffee.  Whatever.

Mission: VA

So you know when you go a vacation and when you get back home you're a little down in the dumps because you're just thinking about all the fun you had?

Well, my "vacation" was only overnight, from Sat-Sun.  It was, however, fun as hell.  It might as well have been a different world though, because heading down I got caught in a bit of a snow mess.  My poor, 7-year old Camry was slipping and sliding all over the road and thank goodness everyone else was going only 25 miles an hour.  In any case, I finally got to my friend's place in Arlington, VA. AWESOME town...or city...or whatever it was.  It seemed a little dead but that was due to the snow.  Had a fab brunch, caught up, told funny stories...lol.  If you're reading right now M.....*holds fist up in the air*.

Alright, enough inside jokes.  Anyway, we just bummed around in her apt which was just as fun as actually doing something, as I don't get to see her often.  Ended up having some people over, partying at a bar for an hour, then taking the party back to her place.  Of course, everyone was sluggish the next day but still very much entertained.

All in all, a nice "calm" weekend.  But still much-needed and until now, much-missed.  Can't wait til the next time.

Mission: Movie Monthly

So what was supposed to be a double-header night featuring Whip It! and Post Grad, turned into a Fuse Top Hottest Video Countdown and Post Grad.  THVC was intense and a little nostalgic, as it featured blasts from the past, like Fiona Apple's Criminal and who'd've thunk that Chris Isaak's Wicked Game would be No.1? Gross.  I HATE that song.

Post Grad was a decent enough movie.  I like the fact that it was so short because any longer and they would have lost me.  Michael Keaton's portrayal of the weird dad got on my nerves but I appreciated seeing Rory Gilmore in a different light...although I kept wondering where Lorelei and co. were.  It was enjoyable enough, especially watching with my friends.  But was it memorable? Probably not.  I'd watch it again though.

It did get me thinking though.  Although I graduated quite a while ago, I still share some of the same "lost" sentiments as Ryden did.  I dunno if I could have up and left my life to follow a guy across the country (I swear, we weren't really watching Felicity) but sometimes I wish I could.  Whatever, I can't dwell on that right now.  This post will be of the "shallow" variety (as in, not a deep one).

All in all, a good night! Hopefully we can continue the movie nights for the rest of the year! I'm putting my foot down on it. =)
